SJGA is proud to announce a new structure to their training programs with the introduction of UPPER 90-Advanced Training. The description of the new structure is a follows:
JEEPERS KEEPERS – BEGINNERS
The JEEPERS KEEPERS-BEGINNER program is the first step in becoming a top level goalkeeper. This program is open to players age 8 – 12. The curriculum is based on the fundamentals of goalkeeping and will prepare the athlete for the “Intermediate” level. Goalkeepers will need to pass all the fundamental aspects of the course to progress to the next level.
SHOT STOPPERS – INTERMEDIATE
The SHOT STOPPERS-INTERMEDIATE program is designed to continue the overall development of the goalkeeper but at a much higher level of intensity. This program is open to players 12 years of age or older. This program is demanding and requires the highest level of discipline, focus and commitment from the athlete. If you are serious about your development and are prepared to perform “on and off” field training exercises then this program is perfect for you. Goalkeepers will need to pass all the fundamental aspects of the course to progress to the next level.
UPPER 90 – ADVANCE
The UPPER 90-ADVANCE program has been designed for those goalkeepers who have proven themselves to be proficient in the basic technical aspects of goalkeeping and are now entering or have been involved at the “Shot Stopper” stage in the SJGA. Students must be 13 years of age or older; it is strongly recommended that they have previous GK training with either the South Jersey Goalkeeping Academy or with a qualified GK coach. This program will review the fundamentals at an accelerated pace. This will be done in the early phases through high repetition. The main focus of this program will be on the more advance goalkeeping skills required when competing at the ELITE level. As part of the overall “athletic” development the physical strength & conditioning requirements will be included in the daily sessions which are needed to execute more advance type of saves.
The goalkeepers will also be expected to continue with their GK development on their own by completing periodic “GK-assignments” and as well, performing daily exercises which must be logged in a journal that will be provided at the start of the program. This is a very intense and compact curriculum that each individual must seriously consider before committing to such a program. There is no doubt however, that by the start of next season, students’ will have a stronger physical presence in their net, an improved athletic ability, a greater insight about their role, and an overall sense of self confidence that will help them to become an integral part of their team’s success.
